10 Things You Might be Forgetting on Your Wedding Day…
You finally made it! The Wedding Day is here. After months and months of planning, checklists, vendor calls and connections, showers, and everything in between, it can be easy to assume that the morning of your day means everything is checked off, done, completed…but what if it isn’t?
Here are ten things you might be forgetting…and with a little help from yours truly, will be remembered and executed well!
Eating breakfast (and lunch!)
It sounds so simple, but it one of the most common things forgotten on big days like this! Between hair and makeup, getting ready photos, and greeting family, many brides especially won’t remember the last time they ate until its 1:00PM and they are lightheaded, on the verge of passing out! We don’t want that. One of the jobs I take on is personally caring for the bride and groom. Part of that care is keeping you fed and hydrated throughout the day so that you have the best day ever marrying the love of your life, without feeling sick!
Charging your phone
Your phone is likely to be how vendors, family, and your wedding party will communicate with you on the day of your wedding. The last thing you want is for a vendor to try to reach out for directions and be met with no response. However, hiring a coordinator would help this one as we tend to handle vendor contacts on your wedding day, so you can relax!
Eating during the reception
Thankfully, this is much less common than it used to be. Most timelines actually include sit down dinner for the bride and groom before table touches. Hallelujah! To keep this boundary, weddings I have coordinate include me asking if you want an uninterrupted dinner to enjoy your first meal together as a married couple. Again, caring for the bride and groom is part of my job!
Prepping an emergency kit
You might not need everything in that kit, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! I always include the following in my kits: safety pins, sewing kit, scissors, fashion tape, pain relievers, tissues, breath mints, stain removers, bobby pins, and a crochet tool (in case there’s lots of buttons).
Quiet moments together
Yes, you are hosting a big group of your closest friends and family, but this is also one of life’s most sacred days! You should build some time in your day to be able to take that in with your new life partner. Whether it’s a five minute block after the ceremony or a private last dance together, build it in. Those moments are the ones that become the most meaningful and remembered after the day is done.
Planning for weather
We always wish for a perfect and sunny day on wedding day, but sadly the weather doesn’t always have that same wish. One of the things my outdoor brides can’t forget is a weather plan! If your wedding is outside, create a solid plan in case showers or storms decide to roll in.
Assigning a set up/clean up person
The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is set up and clean up. You have done all the work, sent the Pinterest board inspirations, picked out colors, and maybe even created a layout. When the day comes, let someone else handle all the details. Make sure that person is reliable and will follow your vision (like a coordinator) and then sit back and take a deep breath. We’ve got it from here. Same goes for clean up! Do NOT do your grand exit, leave your reception and then plan to round the block to come clean up! Have a point person for that as well so you can truly enjoy your first night of happily ever after!
Building in extra “uh oh” time
“Uh oh! The cake is running late.” “Uh oh! The food is a bit behind schedule.” We never love those “uh oh” moments that seem to stall the day, but having a small portion of grace periods in the timeline help them not feel so emergent. As a coordinator, I try to help you find moments to strategically build those in so that the day still flows smoothly and the stalls aren’t noticeable to you or your guests!
Ceremony and reception space walk-through
Wedding day tends to feel like it goes 100 mph from start to finish! Any moment you can find to take in the details of your day, do it. Some of my favorite wedding day moments with brides is when we get to walk through the empty spaces that will soon be filled with the most important people in their lives. It’s a sweet moment where you get to take in what is to come later, plus we get your stamp of approval/ listen to any last minute ideas you might have before proceeding with what’s next.
Letting someone else handle logistics
I may be biased on this one, but I am a big believer in letting someone else handle all of the details on your wedding day! Ideally, having someone hold communication with vendors, running your timeline, and everything in between. As a coordinator, I personally LOVE to handle these things and more so that my clients get to actually enjoy the best day of their lives.
Your wedding day isn’t about having a perfectly executed timeline, though that is a big part of it. It is about celebrating one of the most sacred seasons of your life! Planning ahead for the small details helps everything run just a little more smoothly, so you can spend less time worrying and more time CALM and making memories with the people you love.
